Members and access
Who can create a company, how to add people, and why an invite link opened in the wrong order is a dead end.
Who can create a company
Only an instance administrator. Everyone else joins a company by invitation.
That is upstream's design, not a NuFi setting, and it is enforced in the API rather than only hidden in the interface. A signed-in member with no company membership and no instance-admin sees "No company access" — they authenticated correctly and belong to nothing yet.
To grant instance admin: Settings → Instance access, select the person, and promote them. They need to sign in again for it to take effect.
Inviting someone
works.nufi.me/invite/… link.| Role | Can |
|---|---|
owner | Everything in Admin, plus managing members |
admin | Administer the company |
operator | Assign tasks (the default) |
viewer | View company work and follow along |
Tell them to sign in first, then open the link.
Signed in, opening an invite link accepts it automatically — no button, no form. Not signed in, the invite page shows an email and password form, and on an instance where local sign-up is closed that form is a dead end: they have no local account and cannot create one.
The order that works is: agents.nufi.me → NuFi Works → then the
invite link.
Roles are per company
A person can hold different roles in different companies on the same instance. Instance admin is the exception — it is instance-wide, and it carries the ability to create companies and see everything.
Removing someone
Removing a member from a company stops their access to that company's work. It does not delete their account, and it does not revoke any NuFi Studio API key they created — those are separate and outlive membership.
