Speech

Talk to the app hands-free and have replies read aloud.

NUFI can turn your voice into a message and read replies back out loud — handy when your hands are busy, you're on the move, or typing is uncomfortable.

Voice in — talk instead of type

Find the microphone icon at the bottom-right of the message box (just left of the send arrow).
Tap it once to start recording, tap again to stop. Your words appear as text in the message box.
Edit the text if you need to, then press Enter to send.

If there's no microphone icon, your organisation hasn't connected a voice-to-text engine — ask your admin.

Voice out — have replies read aloud

Click the 🔊 speaker icon in the toolbar under any reply (see the answer toolbar). The reply is read aloud as it streams in.

Hands-free mode

Open the avatar menu (bottom-left) → Settings → Speech to enable:

  • Auto-send — when you stop talking, the message sends automatically. No tap needed.
  • Auto-play — every reply is read aloud as it arrives.

Turn on both for true hands-free use — you talk, NUFI answers, you talk again. Great for the car, a walk, or cooking.

Languages

Voice input detects the language you speak automatically. Voice output uses the app's language (Settings → General → Language). Most major languages work out of the box — English, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and most European languages.

A note on privacy

Voice in and out send audio out of your deployment to a speech provider. For anything sensitive, type it instead — or keep auto-send off so you can review the text before sending.

Common issues

  • Microphone permission denied — your browser is blocking the mic. Click the lock icon in the address bar and allow microphone access.
  • Audio sounds robotic — that's the speech engine. Some organisations connect a higher-quality one; ask your admin.
  • Voice output cuts off — your network dropped briefly. NUFI picks up from where it stopped on the next reply.
